1. Cartagena de Indias Cruise Terminal, nominated for the World Cruise Awards 2024

The Cartagena Cruise Terminal has been nominated for the the “Best Cruise Terminal in Latin America” category in the prestigious World Cruise Awards 2024. This nomination is a testament of the terminal’s high, international standards in terms of services, infrastructure and sustainability, contributing to Cartagena’s positioning as a key destination for cruise tourism in the region.

 

2. Port of Cartagena Group is the 3rd most efficient port in the world

According to the 2023 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), developed by the World Bank and Standard & Poor’s Global Market Intelligence, Port of Cartagena Group is the 3rd most efficient port in the world. According to the report, this achievement highlights the importance of resilience and efficiency in the context of global maritime trade.

The 2023 CPPI is based on data covering 182,000 ship arrivals, 238.2 million crane moves and approximately 381 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) during the whole calendar year across 405 container ports in the world.

 

3. May Cruise Report

As it’s traditional, the number of cruises decreases with the arrival of May, when the season draws to a close. Cartagena’s still awaiting the tourists and cruises that will arrive through what remains of this stage.

During May, 3 cruises arrived to our terminal, with a total of 3,200 passengers and 1,597 crew members, for an economic impact of approximately $ 503,581 USD.

4. Three cruises in June

The end of the 2023-2024 season will occur in June, with the arrival of the Pacific World cruise of the Japan Grace line on the 23rd. This cruise will bring an estimate of 2,272 passengers and 860 crew members.

In total, 3 cruises will arrive in June, with a combined capacity of over 5,000 visitors and an economic impact estimated in over $ 500,000 dollars.

 

5. Silver Shadow stays overnight

The Silver Shadow cruise will stay overnight in Cartagena between the 8th and 9th of June. It belongs to the Silver Sea line and has a capacity of 381 passengers and 302 crew members.

The other two cruise ships that will arrive this month are Crystal Serenity, on June 12, and Pacific World, on June 23.

 

6. Touring Port Oasis: the Green Macaw

Visiting our Cruise Terminal means living the most authentic experience possible with the over 700 rescued specimens of our habitat. Today, we present to you the Green Macaw, which you can find as you stroll around Port Oasis.

As with other members of its genus, one of its most conspicuous characteristics is the total or near-complete absence of facial feathers, with the exception of small strips. Its most colorful features are its crimson cheeks and forehead, turquoise tailbone and tail feathers, matt black beak, yellow iris and dark gray talons. The species acts as a health indicator for ecosystems, as it’s among to disappear in threatened areas.

 

7. Jewels in Casa Crucero

Our cruise terminal store, “Casa Cruceros”, sells iconic Colombian products. In it, visitors can find typical Colombia Jewelry.

An emerald is a gemstone. Its green color comes from the traces of chromium and vanadium inside. It’s associated with eternity, eternal love, regeneration, renewal, recovery, harmony, compassion, and illumination.

8. Cartagena, 491 years after its foundation

The celebration of Cartagena’s 491st birthday left positive left a positive impact on the citizens’ sense of belonging, the city’s cultural and social integration, economic growth and sports scene.

The event, which had a varied and packed schedule, spread through all three main areas of the city, thus becoming an opportunity for the inhabitants of Cartagena to reassert their love for their hometown, as well as reactivate the economy by selling patriotic local craftwork, food, drinks and transportation and tourism services.

9. Port Oasis Live Experience

Colombia is the country with the highest number of identified bird species —over 1900— in the world.

Cruise passengers arriving at the Cartagena Cruise Terminal will not only have the opportunity to see over 50 different species of birds flying around the area, they will also take part in an informational presentation showcasing some of the birds in flight.

This presentation will also showcase mammals such as howler monkeys, tamarins, capuchin monkeys, squirrels, and sloths. In addition, visitors will receive information about projects aimed towards the rehabilitation of rescued animals, as well as the preservation and conservation of some endangered species.

The animals in this area have been rescued by the authorities from illegal possession and were brought for rehabilitation and shelter, after which they are released into their habitat.
